The vitality of Brazilian design culture has one of its epicenters in São Paulo. In continuously redefining itself, this megalopolis epitomizes the rewards and setbacks of being catapulted into a rapid and ever-evolving modernity affecting every aspect of its urban culture. This class narrates the fascinating contradictions of this creative environment through its architecture, landscape, urban design, product design, and the arts. Guest presentations and lectures will reveal a metropolis coming into its own in its post-colonial era. Speakers include Norberto Nardi and Rolando Figueiredo.

Pierluigi is a wonderful instructor — I always learn something new from him, as well as something new to think about. He always opens my eyes!

Course materials, organization, Pierluigi's deep knowledge of the specific area and ability to fit it into larger context of regional traditions and international design trends, and receptivity to participant questions & observations ... all great! Highly recommend!
