500 years ago, most people had little contact with, awareness of, or impact beyond a tiny, nearby group of others, most of whom spoke (more or less) the same language, ate the same food, and led the same kind of lives. Today, genes, germs, technology, and news make us all connected and, despite the current loose talk, globalization is likely here to stay. Our six sessions will look at the connections and movement of people, things, and ideas and conceptions of the world and explore them in chronological development from the earliest days of humanity to the 21st century.Faculty Bio
Steve Harris taught modern European and world history at SF State from 2013 to 2024 and at OLLI programs since 2017. Before returning to his love of history, he spent 30 years as a lawyer and executive.
