In the realm of the arts, adaptation of older works is a constant form of interpretation, creation, and transformation. In this course we will look at the theory and practice of adaptation, using Shakespeare’s Hamlet as a keystone text. We will read the Danish textual source for Hamlet, then Shakespeare’s play, then Maggie O’Farrell’s novel Hamnet, then we will view and discuss the film version of Hamnet.
