The Short Story of Families in Love and Trouble

Novelist and short story writer Lauren Groff has said that writers compose the score and readers make the music. In this discussion-focused course, we will delve into over a dozen mostly contemporary short stories of familial and marital relationships. Intimacy — sought, avoided, achieved, lost — is arguably the core work of human life, so, naturally, the central subject of great literature. The family is relational ground zero, and the short story — the novel distilled to its essence — is the ideal form for our engaged exploration.
